    slit them with an x (just like a sprout) and they seem to peel a lot easier and less explosions. my brother (a chef) boils them for a bit first and then roasts them but i prefer mine just roasted. Chestnuts and jellied eels are the foods that no one else will eat apart from me so i get to scoff the whole lot myself!

    slightly changing the subject but you should never cut into sprouts this makes them cook too quick and become too soft.
    Sprouts like all veg should be crisp tothe bite (more tastey )

    One of the things I love about chestnuts is that they are one of the few things that you can't get year round these days and so i really look forward to them. The day i can buy fresh chestnuts in july i will know that the world has gone truly mad. My ex-mil says that she used to feel the same about strawberries in December
