  • Had a few months were paid nothing but don't feel comfortable not paying anything.

Going to start walking to work as I only stay 20 minute walk from work & as suggested anh1904 has said it will keep me fit (also gives me chance to try out some of the fitness apps on my phone :-).

Thanks also Tixy for suggesting green metropolis never heard of that before.

Can I offer you a little bit of advice without sounding judgemental?

I don't know your age nor the age of your child. If you and your child are young then I think you must try and get a grip of your finances now rather than later. You are living at home and I expect you will want to move out at some point. Things will then get much more tough financially!

You seem to be taking on board everybody's good advice but you need to change your mindset. (said with no disrespect intended)

I always have a quiet chuckle when people write their entertainment figure and it shows up as a 'round figure' because most people have no idea of what they spend and just have a guess -''well, about..........'' So, keep a spending diary. Note down everything you spend. You only need a little cheap notebook or I expect you can do it on your phone (oh, by the way, you mention fitness apps- is this an expensive phone which you could sell and replace with a cheapie - something about using the sim card in the new one? - not my field of expertise but someone may be able to help)

If you went 'full out' (look up some of the diary threads to see how people do it) you would be able to get out of debt in a relatively short time.

In my opinion it is not enough to do a little here and there, it is about completely changing your whole outlook on life. Do you really want to be giving your money away in the form of interest each month?

You only get one chance at life and with a child you do have responsibilities.

    OK, lecture over!

Good luck and post again if you want some moneysaving ideas.

Given that you only live a mile from your workplace, is the car essential? £200ish a month seems a lot to spend on something you presumably don't use every day. Have you looked into Streetcar for the occasional use?
