Wouldn't really trust a Tesco Value tent. I got one of these little beautys for £19.99 from Argos for the V festival. Pops up in seconds! :T

The material on the cheap Tesco tents is very thin and some of the tags that the pegs go through ripped off the first time we used ours.
However, they are fine for a one off use although I would really be treating it as a disposable item and leave it at the festival!0 -

Can it withstand a good downpour?0 -
I had one, it was ok, but it had really bad condensation inside and did leak quite alot in the rain. I'd advice spending more but getting a decent on and taking it home afterwards.
I hate the waste at festivals, so many decent tents etc just abandoned! Not very MSE!
Miss Wetwipe, make sure you practice putting it down, its very easy once you know how, I couldn't help but chuckle at people who couldn't put tem down at last years glastonbury.:EasterBun0 -
I had one and it was freezing inside, just no protection from the cold at all! If you're going to get one make sure you take extra blankets etc and have someone else in the tent with you, though i'm not sure taking loads of extra stuff is good for a festival when you have to lug it across 3 miles of field.0

If you want a really downpour proof tent I wouldn't go for a single skin one. You can get a twin skin tent from Argos for about £25 or check out ebay.
A lot of festivals now have an agreement with a charity (the red cross i think) that they will collect up all the tents that are left and use them for emergancy shelters. You just have to leave the door open and the bag inside. Brilliant idea I think.0 -
This is really the worst problem with sinle skin tents - and you may not think it matters, but waking up in the morning with all your clothes/ sleeping bag/ anything that touched the side sopping wet is no fun, even at a festival! Worth spending a little more IMHO.I had one, it was ok, but it had really bad condensation inside and did leak quite alot in the rain. I dont think this is the case. Attempts have been made by some organisations to make use of these, notably at Glastonbury 3 years ago but the sheer manpower and resources needed to dismantle, pack and possibly dry hundreds of low value tents makes it uneconomical. If people could be bothered to pack them and take to a collection point it might be feasible.
I hope that someone has since discovered an economical way to salvage these, but I'd expect anything you leave to end up in the back of the dustcart or to be salvaged by the site workers. Although I cant speak for every event, as I'm often one of the last people on site at several major events I have seen how this often happens.0 -
Bought a Tesco stripes budget brand one a few years ago for kids to get changed in on beach. Its had some serious abuse, been played in, used as a wind shelter, allsorts & is still intact, however when it rains it comes in through the zips & if anything is touching the tent from the inside it will let water in. The groundsheet is fine and keeps damp out, just the fact its a single skin upper. Great tent if you can guarantee dry weather but I wouldnt take the gamble at a festival.0
