Natwest / Triton

I have a loan that was originally taken out with Natwest, but is now administered by Triton Credit Services as I am on a DMP
Since they took over the administration of my loan, I have had problems with Triton quoting a different (lower) balance to that showing as outstanding on my credit report. I have complained to Natwest about this and finally received a letter saying that the amount on my credit report is correct and that "due to a system error" Triton have been incorrectly been quoting me the settlement figure for the account.
I thought this was sorted until I got back from work this evening to a letter from Natwest saying "This is to confirm that your outstanding debt to the bank in relation to the above account has been discharged". This is obviously based on the lower amount outstanding that Triton have been quoting me.
Seeing as this letter seems to be pretty final, can Natwest still go back on it and insist that I still owe them money?
Any advice much appreciated, I am pretty sick of this and would like it sorted once and for all.

Presumably you haven't paid the debt off at all yet?
Sounds like its just a letter from Natwest to say your account has been sold on. You might well find its someone other than triton that contacts you next to say they have bought the debt from natwest.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Triton is the RBSG internal debt collection agency.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0

As stclair says, Triton are part of the RBS/Natwest Group, so the debt has already been passed on by Natwest.
Triton have always given me a smaller outstanding amount (which has clearly now been cleared, hence the letter), whereas the amount Natwest report on my credit report has always been considerably higher (c. £1500 outstanding). Interestingly, this letter saying my debt has been discharged is on Natwest headed paper and not Triton.
I am just fed up of getting conflicting information from two different departments of the same bank! I am more than happy to pay the full amount off if necessary, I just want them to be straight with me and stop sending misleading letters.0 -
What I mean is that it sounds like Natwest may now have sold your debt on.
When triton were dealing with it, it was still owned by Natwest (because they are the internal DCAs they wre just acting on behalf), but the letter you recieved yesterday implies it has actually now been sold on and you no longer owe natwest but will owe whoever bought the debt.
(I was aware that triton are in house collectors and it appeared from your opening post you were as well which is why I didn't think it needed pointing out).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I've called the number on the letter this morning, the bloke I spoke to said my account is showing as clear. No mention of any outstanding amounts being sold on to third parties. Any payments I make to Triton going forward will be returned to me.
I have had numerous dealings with Natwest customer services on this, I think I'm going to have to give them another call....0 -
Hi All. I thought I'd give you an update on this....
I emailed Natwest customer services again moaning about the fact that I couldn't get a consistent balance on my loan from two departments in the same bank. I got a letter last night saying that as Triton had sent me the discharge letter, they will honour it (despite it being Triton's error and Natwest's system says I still owe c. £1500) and my credit file will be updated to fully satisfied. Result!0 -
i have had no end of problems with triton they can never tell the same amount even if i call them twice in 1 day, also the letters i get from them range from "pay £50 and your debt is gone" right through to "final notice" even though i have been making payments for the last few years on time0
