Im 20 and just found out recently im pregnant and I stay with my parents. My room is really small like a box room and wont be enough room for me and my baby to live here when it comes. I am currently studying at college and I will be going on to do my last year in college (a HND) in August. I also have a part time job only 9 hours a week on a Friday. I would like to know if I could still apply to the council to get a house until I can pick myself up and rent my own house. My boyfriend would also like to move into a house with me and the baby but im not sure if I could still get a house and rent payed that way if he works. If anyone could give me some advise please?

Get yourself down to council and apply to be on council waiting list. It doenst mean they can guarantee you a house/flat though as it depends on what they have available and how many on the waiting list which will be prioritised most probably
It might be worth asking in Benefits & Tax Credit too as more knowledgeable people may have a better idea0 -

Get yourself down the council to get on the housing list asap. However, you will not be guaranteed to be offered a house, even though you are in a difficult situation, as this depends on the amount of housing in your area/ number of people on the list already, and number of people that are classsed as higher priority than you. If you and your boyfriend are planning on living tother then go down together and make a joint claim.
How far into your pregnancy are you? I think your priority to be housed goes up once you reach your 27th week of preganancy, but you will have to confirm this with the council.
As for private renting- you can get housing benefit if you are working, esp if you are on a low income or working p/t. For an idea of what you can get go to www.entitledto.co.uk to do a benefit calculation. The tricky bit will be getting enough money together for a deposit etc. Would your parents be able to help you with this? Also, some councils offer a deposit scheme and will put you in touch with private landlords that accept peopple receiveing housign benefit.
Hope this helps, and best of luck with the baby

Do your parents know your pregnant? I think you two should both get some form of work, I also agree with xjessix that you'll get on the waiting list with income. It's all a bit sudden isn't it! Should of organized this a little more. Does your bf own a property? Maybe he has room.New year, new comper here!
