I have been waiting for my tax rebate for over 6 months now...don't know what to do!

Just wondering if anyone has some advice they could give me...

In November, I called up the tax office to explain that I had never received a tax rebate since I began working in 2006 even though I know I should have received them.

It turns out it was my fault as I have had a lot of temp jobs and they didn't have all the information required to process my rebate. Therefore, I gathered all of the information required and sent this to them the week before Christmas. I was advised there were a backlog of claim and that it would be processed towards the end of January (fair enough, I thought)

I called back in January to make sure they had received my P45's etc that were required. I was advised they could not tell me this over the phone and that if they had received them I would receive my rebate very soon, if not to call back beginning of February.

I called back in February only to be told that they HADN'T received any of the documentation I sent in and that I would have to sort it out myself. No form of apology whatsoever. So, I managed to get all the details again, statements of earnings from when I was on jobseekers etc...

I called back in March and was advised I would receive my rebate in 10 days for the years 07/08, 08/09 and 09/10...10 days came and went and still no rebate!

I ended up making an appointment at my local library where they have a couple of ladies who work for the tax office...she went through my whole claim with me and said there was no reason why I shouldn't have had the rebate already, but she put it through as a new claim and was advised it would be 6 weeks until I would get the rebate...anytime between 6th - 13th May I was told.

I kept on at the tax office, who have been the most unhelpful useless people I have ever come across. It is now the 24th May...I still have no rebate. I called them today only to be told that because I had put in a formal complaint they couldn't give me any more information about my claim over the phone...and that it takes 25 working days for this to be completed. They couldn't state whether this would affect my claim or not...

Sorry for the essay here, but it is a problem that has been going on for months...I have been made redundant and they don't seem to care in the slightest, let alone give me any reason as to what is taking so long.

I am at the point now where I am considering taking them to court (if I can) as I don't know what else I can possibly do...I have called them literally 18 TIMES since November...it's a joke!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
