Free DVD Rental Trials - Question

A couple of months ago MyMovieStream announced that they were stopping their free trial offering, changing in favour of a reduced fee for the first month. They previously offered a 14-day unlimited disc free trial, but now only offer the first month at half-price on all of their packages.

Does anyone sign up for these ‘first-month half-price’ offers? I’ve heard from some people that they only do the free trials, because they don’t want to hand over any money at all, but when you think about it they are still very worthwhile.

For example if you sign up for a 2-disc at a time unlimited package for £12.99, you would get the first month at £6.50. If you turned-around say 6 discs in that month, the average cost per DVD would be £1.08, whereas at £3.50 the same 6 discs from a rental shop would cost you about £21 – over three times more.

Obviously the proper free trials where you don’t pay anything are the ones to do first (!!!!! is a good site for finding them), but does anyone take up these half-price offers after they’ve exhausted all the free trials?

I use to be a tart then I ran out of offers so I got engaged to Tesco DVD rentals

My reasoning is that for £11.75 per month I can have 2 DVDs at a time which at current consumption equates to about 8 per month, or £1.47 per film. Tie this in with the bar I have on my partner from buying films from Sky at £3.50, and I am saving money and getting to view some pretty obscure titles that I would not waste a 'full' rental fee on.

I went through all the free trials and then started on the 3 for 2 months. I cancel before my next billing date and you generally find you get an email with another special offer!

Was that LoveFilm that you got the 3 months for the price of 2 offer from? I keep getting those offers e-mailed to me; they put an expiry date on the offer and then once it's expired they send another e-mail with the same offer extended to a later date!

I haven't signed up to that offer yet because I've still got some free trials to take advantage of on that list, but hopefully they'll still be offering that deal by the time I have exhausted all the free trials!
