How about something crafty to keep them busy? something like make your own key rings, pencil toppers or something with fimo clay etc
or how about, Make your own Sock Puppet - I did this for a group of Adults (part of my training, not just a random party!) They all loved it and some still have their sock puppets 4 years later!! It's quite cheap, a sock each, a set of googly eyes and a pre cut mouth in the bag. Empty out some additional craft bits to share (pipe cleaners, glitter, feathers, glue etc) and watch the chaos and imagination :0)0 -
i've just put together my daughters party bags. she'll be 5. looking at the party bag items, they cost a fortune so we went mainly with sweets....
we got a multi pack of mars minatures with a variety of skittles, m&ms, mars, milky ways etc from tesco
swizzles lollipop
mini maoam bar
sherbert straw (ebay)
then we went neutral as we didnt want boys and girls getting mixed up, we got smiley face temporary tattoos, smiley face spinner tops and smiley face mini slinkeys
plus they'll have their cake.... not sure about 8 year olds, but possibly stick with the smiley face type neutral theme, or spongebob items or something unisex?0 -

Yellow moon are known for their crafts they offer for children to get busy with! And they also have some nice kiddies party fillers. I always look for the sale pages on these websites because they add up so quickly. My choices:
http://www.yellowmoon.org.uk/cat_id/SPEC/product-Mini-Star-and-Moon-Beads-L534.htm (Girly, maybe get them to take home).
http://www.yellowmoon.org.uk/cat_id/SPEC/product-Lollipop-Eraser-Push-a-Point-Pencils-L577.htm (Sorta girly again).
http://www.yellowmoon.org.uk/cat_id/SPEC/product-Smiley-Jump-Ups-L554.htm (Cheap and cheerful).
http://www.yellowmoon.org.uk/cat_id/SPEC/product-Phone-Water-Games-L726.htm (Whatever they are they'll appeal to both).
I hope you like my choices, also check out the other site pagesIf you do order from Yellow Moon could u put our source code at the checkout WSH07752 towards our fundraising. Thanks!

Primark are great for jewellery, what about bangles for the girls and leather wrist bands for the boys, then get the usual sweets from the pound shop, bubbles go down well, or pencil cases with a couple of pens and a notebook.0

What a fab site - just had a quick peek & definitely not your usual tat & reasonably priced too. Unfortunately I've just ordered some books from book people for my DD party bags, but am definitely bookmarking this site for next time!0 -
I recently did a garden party for my daughters 8th bday and had a theme of bugs.... most people came in fancy dress and i got her to make a load of lasrge bugs from cardboard and paint to decorate the fence, bought some other small decorations from ebay, and made sure i shopped about for the cheapest and also asked on discount for ordering several things, a lot of companies will just ask! I also made my own cake, and enough fairy cakes which i put into plastic cupcake cases 10 for 1.99 from cakecraftshop.co.uk. I hate putting a slice of cake in a bag as its so messy, and instead of bags i bought boxes from giftedoriginals.co.uk which work out 33p each - so much tidier and the children can reuse if they want to... i bought a lot of bits frmo ebay inc some 'good job' stickers for all the children who didnt win a prize in the games and a lolly each. U can also buy moulds and make your own choc lollies to put in the bag... or truffles / fudge / peppermint creams / nougat. I bought 10 balloons for a pound from £land too, u know the large ones u win at the fair, they fill up loads! And i paid about £3.50 for 25 bouncy balls, ebay. I hate buying that tatty stuff u get from asda, it just goes in ther bin, would rather pay a little extra and get things theyll use and keep! U can also get printables off the net free, and put one in each box? Or copy off 10 and have as a prize with a pack of colouring pens? Get some elastic and beads and ask your daughter to make up a load of bracelets for the bags?Best wins 2011 - Blackberry Bold phone, 2 gelert tents (worth £325), £50 days out vouchers, 2 food hampers, Malibu picnic hamper, £50 Mam hamper, Kindle as well as lots of small wins0
