Deduction of wages can they do it?

Can employers deduct wages with out telling you?

I friend had some hours deducted an has contacted his employer and keep saying they will look into it but 3 weeks later still no explanation.

They have taken 7 hours off him and have yet to explain why.

Please advise

It isn't a deduction of wages - he has been paid for the number of hours the employer says he has worked. There appears to be a question about the number of hours that he has worked - and yes, he needs to take this up with the employer. If he is getting no answer then he needs to make a formal grievance.
