It really depends what sort of things you are looking for really.
    I am on a very tight budget (2 boys...13 and 4).
I get by with hand-me-downs, supermarkets, primark, charity shops and car boots.

If you are going down the carboot/ charity shop route, I would advise going childless and allow plenty of time.

I recently picked up a lovely Matthew Williamson Butterfly party top/dress, brand new with tags for just £5 from my local Age Concern shop....I looked on ebay and somone is selling a worn one for £25 !!!

I can never find anything in charity shops.
What about Primark? H&M are also good value too.

Yeah Primark is usually a bit hit and miss with me but H&M is worth looking at.

Try ebay, loads of used and new clothes, quite a few finishing at 99p or a couple of quid!

Try Oxfam shop online. Has some nice stuff including designer! Cardiff Oxfam shop on St Mary St is great.
    Also ebay is always good.

There's a thread in the Discount Voucher section which tells you how to get £15 off a £20 shop at la Redoute.
There is no excuse for rudeness. Ignorance on the other hand is excusable – you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Personally I find Primark rubbish, I buy most of my stuff in charity shops and have some fantastic clothes. I only buy good quality and by buying in charity shops I can afford to buy much better labels than I could normally afford. A lot of my stuff has been brand new- or with absolutely no signs of wear. I know where to shop locally, but tend to find British Heart foundation and cancer research are good wherever I go. I have a look in whichever town we're in and prices will vary- sadly there are few charity shops now near me where you can pick things up for a quid or 2, but I'd rather pay £4 for a brand new Per Una top that'll wash and wear well, than £4 for a primark top that in my experience, is of very poor fit and quality.

I do also buy off ebay - just seach for clothing size and make it so it says ending soon then look for bargains. Have got some great stuff doing this.

    Good luck!

Charity shops can be really good, but it varies from shop to shop and area to area how good the finds are. There's a reasonable element of random in it all so you often need to spend time hunting around and be willing to go through the racks thoroughly (display is often lacking). They're also not so well suited to finding specific items. However, if you're fairly open minded about what you're looking for or have a big shopping list you'll have a good chance of finding stuff you want. Being able to try the items on is the major plus to charity shops.

I occasionally buy from eBay, things like Levi jeans or shirts from companies whose sizes I'm very familiar with. In both examples I'm very confident I know the general shape, fit and size of the item in relation to how well it fits me, so I'm willing to buy these things online. However, I'd generally caution against buying items you haven't been able to try on, or worse haven't even been able to look at in person. Fitting properly is the major difference between clothes that look good and ones that don't. I could easily find two pairs of jeans which officially have the same measurements, but one fits well and the other doesn't. No doubt there's lots of great items on eBay, but better to pass them up as there will be plenty that fit badly and it's impossible to tell which is which.

Have you thought about Freegle/Freecycle? People are often getting rid of clothes on there (if you need specific items you could always put a Wanted post) . Of course you may have to sort through a bin bag of clothes and only find one or two items suitable, but you can always re-post and pass the others to someone else.

I tend to get mine from CS, car boots or anywhere, lately I have had quite a few bargains as I have lost a lot of weight but don't want to fork out for a whole new wardrobe sohave managed to pick up
Rock & republic jeans 20p jumble sale
Denim shorts /combat shorts £1 each CS and car boot
a few summer tops all £1 -£1.50 from car boots
it just takes time really and shopping around.
