Cheapest PVR available

As the title says, I am looking for a cheap pvr, preferably 80GB.

I only need one tuner as I already have a freeview box.

The cheapest i have found is £69.99

Does anyone know any cheaper?

  • DH says having 2 tuners is nothing to do with Freeview, and everything to do with being able to record 2 programmes at once. He says look at the reviews of your cheap deal, as he's come across one with firmware problems - if it's this one, it's trouble!

Can you tell I am just typing this, and most of it is over my head? :D He gave me a lovely PVR for my bday.

He recommends the Topfield one...which is a lot more expensive.....they only do 160 and 250GB.

  • DH has found a Humax with 160GB for £175 if that is any use....... (Bit of a jump, though, isn't it :o

  • Sorry to keep posting - DH is very thorough! He's come up with this helpful website..... http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/pvr.html

  • Not cheaper, £93 but 160GB Twin Tuner HDD Recorder With Built in Freeview, twin tuner means you can record 2 channels, whilst watching another.

I have the Topfield pvr, absolutely brillant, excellent build and quality, but like you say a lot dearer.
  • Thanks for the help.

I am not particularly worried about recording two programmes at once either. That maplin pvr does look quite good though.

Probably not but if you get one with twin tuners you wont ever want to go back , we have Sky+ and wouldnt be without it now.

Check https://www.avforums.com all full section on pvrs.

Apparently you can get the Thomson DHD4000 from Argos for £60.

Its an old catoluge no (532/0840) so stock is limited but on the plus side it is a twin tuner and gets decent reviews.
