GMAC finance help - urgent

I took out finance with GMAC for a Vauxhall Corsa in April 2009. Everything was fine, but then ran into some difficulties and couldnt pay. Due to anxiety/depression issues I hid my head in the sand until they threatened to re-posess the car. At that point I managed to borrow some money from my gran to pay off the arrears. I started paying my normal re-payments again. This was last April/May. I then moved address last summer, but wrote out to every organisation including them to have my details changed. At some point my bank have cancelled the standing order (must have got mixed up when I rang them to cancel a few - you know what they are like). So then out of the blue I received a letter on Saturday stating that they have been trying to resolve this issue with me and are considering legal action as I havent resonded to them.
What are my options at the moment? I do not want to hand the car back as my wife is disabled and we really need the car to get around. I have written to them to advise I want to come to an amicable solution and have proposed a re-payment of £100 for the arrears (the amount I am as yet unaware until I work it out) and my normal payment of £180.04, both per calendar month. Any help/advice would be appreciated!
