Does anyone have an idea of estimated price for installing a basic house alarm?
I don't need anything fancy and don't live in a mansion (unfortunately).
Any rough estimates would be great.
Cheers:money:

thanks - the reason I asked was to try to bring down the price of home insurance. However, when looking at home insurance some of them ask if the alarm is standard fitted and regularly tested by some bod. Does it count if you stick one up yourself?

Dunno if it counts, but it would certainly be painful.0

Not sure about that but they will say that if you don't put the alarm on and you get burgled, then they may not payout! I put one in at our house and just say no to that question to keep us right as if we pop out to the shop (2 mins away) we would not put it on and just lock the door.
The one I put in was a wired one (no worries about batteries in the sensors etc) and is here: http://www.hunters-wholesalers.co.uk/scantronic-9651en41-complete-alarm-system-9651kit2-p-3090.html?cPath=42_43Regards, Robin.2011 MFW # 34

To bring your insurance down you generally need to have a professionally installed alarm fitted, complete with a maintenance contract & often monitoring solution ... your saving will never ever cover any of the costs involved.
RTNI is also correct about the "if the alarm is not on" no payout clause in most policies.
Personally, I've got an alarm c/w autodialer etc... that I always use but simply don't mention it on my policy.0
