    Deleted.

Sorry, took your question to read what people used their saved money on.

    Doh!
  • Hi,

I do all the ususal things, bulk cooking in the slow cooker, cooking from scratch using reduced items and freeze any I don't need atraight away, grow fruit and veg and meal plan.

I think I save most money though on cleaning items. I now use microfibre clothes, stardrops, white vinegar and bicarb for most jobs. Bulk buy dishwasher and laundry goods when on offer and use half the quantity recommended. My house has never been so clean and I have never enjoyed cleaning so much!! Much easier than having a different bottle of stuff for every job.

Memory girl - where did you get the risotto rice from? We love risotto but the rice is expensive compared to other sorts, but a risotto is so much better for it.

Sorry Luv - local Farmshop that was shutting down. Approved Foods sometimes have a good deal though.

Love our risottos here - especially now that DS1 (aged 10) makes them as his speciality.

Meal plan, slow cooker and a little thing that saves me a lot of money is making my lunch for work, not only is it cheaper but it takes me away from the temptation of walking round town and just buying this, just buying that!

I save money by thinking "do I really need to buy that?"

    eg

Do I really need to buy more toiletries until I've used up all the ones I already have at home, including the little travel ones?

Do I really need to buy toilet cleaner when I've a bottle of really poor quality washing up liquid under the sink that's been there for months?

Do I really need to buy any new clothes or are there clothes in the wardrobe I've never even worn?

Do I really need drain cleaner or can I use bicarb and vinegar?

Do I really need to buy petrol or shall I walk to town one day a fortnight?

Do I really need to buy cake or shall I make one from store cupboard ingredients that I already own?

Lol I have my own version of "do i really need..." Its "would my mother have bought it?" She's 94.

I have a very inefficiently heated concrete house and I am a chilly mortal due to health problems. I spend a fortune on coal, wood and electicity. In the winter I have draft excluders at doors (old towels rolled up), sheets of plastic taped over the windows, blu tac in key holes, fleece between the plastic and curtains, fleece throws to wrap up in and wear so many layers I look like the Mitchillen man.
