R27 tax form.

Hi, My Father died in February this year and unfortunately he didn't leave a will. I have been nominated by the family to act as the executor of his estate. I have applied for and been given probate to enable me to deal with this. I have recently received a R27 tax form to fill out as Dad may be due some tax back.

Is there any legal requirement that this form is completed? The tax year ended in April and Dad died in February. So if there is any tax rebate due it won't be much. He was 78 and retired. So his only income was his state pension and a couple of PEP's.

I'm not trying to hide anything from the tax man, but I'm unable to answer the questions that are being asked. For instance 'State Pension lump sum'. I have no idea if he took this option or who to contact to find out.
