in Cutting tax
Hi not sure if this is the right board but my daughter is 17 at college and works part time, she is paying tax but only earning about £2,000 year, i.e. her last pay slip at the end of april stated she paid about £80 in tax, any ideas why as the threashold is over £6,000, how would she go about claiming it back.
thanks

I would assume that she is being taxed at BR (basic rate) a code mainly used for employees who have a second job or have not handed in a P45 or completed a P46.
I would guess from what you have said that this is not a second job so problem proberbly is with not having a P45 or filling in a P46.
This link will show a P46 which the employer should ask the employee to fill in when they start if they do not have a P45.

Do you know if a P46 was done and if so what section was marked A B or C?
Whatever the cause tax paid last year will now have to be reclaimed from the tax office, anything sorted out now will only adjust this tax years details.0
