Tax if you are a housewife?

I gave up work with my first pregnancy and have been a housewife ever since - 19 years now. My sister said to me the other day that everyone has to fill in a self-assesment tax return every year - is that true?? I have never done one because I don't have a job, my DH gives me housekeeping money for the bills and I get child benefit but nothing else - was I supposed to do forms still?

You only need to complete a self-assessment when you have taxable income that is not taxed at source. Sole Traders, income from overseas, over 65 in some cases ....
it is a pity when people cause others to worry unnecessarily. Refer your sister to the source of the rules:
