to throw more of a spanner in the works, i have temp contract,

and i only did a few weeks work for them, the rest of the time the car sat untouched, why should i be taxed for those periods ?

If you had use of car, it is a taxable benefit.

Now that's a different matter, but potentially more challenging.
Unless I made a mistake using the HMRC tool, at this time you have a P11D from your previous employer but it shows a benefit less than it should.
Did you try the HMRC calculator yourself and did you get the same result as me?
If your former employer has stated on your P11D that the car was available to you when it wasn't you will need to persuade your former employer to amend your P11D.
Quite frankly, you trying to persuade HMRC that your former employer has got the period of availability of the car (to you) wrong will be next to impossible unless you have very good evidence and are bloody minded enough.
On the other hand, as previously discussed, your previous employer appears to have understated the benefit.
If you want to take this further you will need to be a lot more specific about the dates you used the car and, especially, any periods in which you were employed but the car was not available to you as opposed to it being available to you but you chose not to use it.
