    Debt-free and Proud!
Hi Verbatim - well, I started to feel I was of no use here. I don;t know about IVAs and stuff like that, and I felt a bit redundant. But maybe I'll come back! I tend to be in the Arms or DT these days, but I read DFW, I just don;t often post. I've moved on from my chick avvys - have a Christmas one at the mo but tend to still change them often!

tomandjerry - My debt was just over 7k, and all of it loans and credit cards. I did have savings at one point I could have paid my car loan off with, but it's 0 per cent, and I was made redundant and had to go self employed, so I used them up anyway.

My lightbulb moment was when I joined really. I saw a copy of the Money Diet at work, and read it, and started doing the budget and slashing my outgoings, then I came on here and posted a very miserable thread about never having any money!

It was awful realising I spent loads on nothing, and especially on drinking. So now I hardly ever drink! Martin has saved my liver as well as my wallet!

It was hard at first, and at one point I got a lodger so I could really hammer my debt. It wasn;t as much as some people owe, but I couldn;t afford it and it was scary realising how out of control my finances were.

I still tend to overspend, but much less than before, and because I'm so careful usually, the cash is findable, IYSWIM.

I can;t wait to be debt free, because then I can start saving, and see some money building up for me! I want to go to New Zealand to visit a friend next year, so I'll be saving for that.

This year though, I did use a lot of my redundancy to get new carpets in my house. It cost 2k and I paid CASH! I was so pleased :D Before, I'd have put it on the cc and not cared if I could pay it back easily. I maybe shoulda kept the money but my old carpets were threadbare and I get a lot fo pleasure out of walking over my old job every day :rotfl:

I'm proud to be dealing with my debt, proud to be a moneysaver, and proud to be part of such a great community as on here. :T

  • Hey skintchick, just wanted to say that I think you don't have to know all the 'technical' stuff to be helpful. Just posting as you did just now is really helpful.

It's encouraging to read things like that!
