I would suggest you do make them true. We get trained to spot lies and ask probing lessons to unearth them. so if you aren't sure how ace a liar you are, don't!
    Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.

How about a decision involving prioritisation? Ie you were serving one customer but another came over who was clearly upset and demanding attention. You had to make a decision how best to deal with the situation so neither customer was left upset?

Has anything like that happened to you in your retail role?

You could say how you managed the first customers expectations by telling him you would have assistance in one minute - showing you cope under pressure

then you call assistance - working with your team

then ensure the first customer's query is dealt with in entirety - good customer service

And then check that the query of the 2nd customer has also been resolved

I'd suggest that the example you used previously wasn't the best, because if there's a problem with your brakes, getting them fixed promptly is a bit of a no-brainer! Never mind driving away for further opinions. OK, with some problems that may be acceptable, but you'd need to be clear about that.

Questions from customers: did you ever have to make a decision yourself rather than referring it to a manager? it's the decision which is key.

The Supervisor in my last job was always asking stupid questions, so I had to decide whether to punch him in the mouth or kick him in the testicles
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

With hindsight, did you make the right choice?

I was torn, so I kicked him in the testicle and punched him in the mouth as he doubled over. Result all round
