go shopping and take all the coupons available with you. dont take your child!
be strict with yourself. buy only what you need. and try and get the special offers but only if they are on your shopping list.
life is like a loo roll. the nearer the end you get, the faster it goes.

Find out when your local supermarket does its final reductions for the day - they work on sell by dates not use by dates - and try to shop around that time, results in some weird dinners sometimes but there are some serious bargains to be had!
If you can't think of anything nice to write, say nothing. Rudeness isn't clever.

i buy the value frozen chicken breasts that i use for all sorts, i always have loads of pasta, rice, herbs and jars of stuff to throw in a pan and rustle something up

some of the choices i have are:
    fajitas
    stir fry
pizza (home made, they are easy and so much cheaper and everybody gets a pizza each with the toppings they choose)
spaghetti (the value spaghetti is only 20p and value mince is only £1.20)
    burritos
    meatballs (with pasta or chips)
burgers (home made so i can add chilli or peanut butter for personal taste)
    salad
pasta bake (sometimes add sausages or leftover chicken), the value pasta is only 10p or so
    chicken and rice with sweetcorn
stew (usually chicken unless there is oops meat) with cheap yorkshires (45p for 12 value) and mash
    shepherds/cottage pie
    lasagne
baked potatoes (scooped out with value bacon, mushrooms and cheese mashed in and grilled) with salad if enough left
have to have fish fingers every so often cos my daughter likes them with tomato sauce :)
also if there are any good offers on or reduced stuff i adapt it so we might have pies or pork or something if i find it

    hth :)

i bake my own fairy cakes which never last long, but gives that sweet sugar hit that everyone craves cos i stopped buying chocolate bars, although i do still buy cheap biscuits for the biscuit barrel which everyone eats but it cost me £1.50 a week in stead of £6.50

It is worth taking a look at the sites selling short dated food sites listed in this thread.

Even with the delivery costs you can save an awful lot of money if you are selective about what you buy & you make sure you make full use of the maximum weight allowance for your orders. Most of these sites add new products daily but the best bargains can sell out fast. As they deliver to your door you don't have to worry about carrying things home.

Just about to suggest this link, really worth visiting these sites regularly and signing up if you want to cut down your food bill.

Hello eif88, It might be usefull to see an itemised shopping list of what you normally buy, then we could suggest cheaper alternatives. I often look in people's trolleys and wish I could go through it and change some items to save them money. I would probably be told to mind my own business though :rotfl:

PS I'm a bit worried about large amounts of cola rotting your teeth though, that will put your dentist bills up
    I love skip diving.

I do the food shop for me and my boyfriend and I do it for the month for £100. Obviously my situation is different as we don't have kids.
We bought tesco value dried pasta the other month 9p a bag, then i just reduce a couple of tins of chopped toms (value would be fine for this), chop up some garlic and add that, bit of black pepper and some cheese on top. Thats 1 meal, plus the Bf takes the leftovers to work as he works nights, so heats it up in the micro.
I do my shopping online, i used to spend £200+ for a month for us two and since switching to online i've saved loads, plus we dont drive so its much easier for us and we dont mind paying the delivery charge.

You could also try the old saving tips board on here, they have loads of great ideas and whole meal plans so you can easily make something for your family every night, check it out!

    Good luck :)
  • i use the approvedfood, com site and it delivers to your door within 3/4 days even taking into account the postage of around £5 i still save a fortune ..i buy catering packs of anything i will use plus anything that i was going to have to buy that week anyway and a few treats plus whatever is on a good cheap offer ...i dont worry too much about the dates as i was raised in a era when food wasnt dated ..tinned and dry stuff ...just keeps forever ...and sweets go long past their dates and tell me how does things like disinfectant go off its just silly these days ...but if my large family can live cheaply and better on it then i say carry on
i only top up at the shops with a shopping list of anything that i have actually run out of or really need
