Hi OSers
Not sure if this is in the right place or not, so please move it if not (sorry in advance)
I'm in the process of moving out and trying to do everything possible to ensure I get my full damage deposit back from estate agents as cheaply as possible, but not obviously so cheap that I may jeapordize the deposit.
Anyway, I had a friend stay for a few weeks who decided to tack some pictures to her wall with blu-tak (as soon as I realised, I made her take them down as I know how awful it stains).
Needless to say, even after 24 hours, there are about 40 oily marks on my wall
I would repaint them with a matchpot, but I don't think that magnolia paint was used on the walls, it's more a a sort of cream/beige colour, and I don't really fancy having to repaint the whole room, just to blend these in (as well as having to pay for a tub of paint, which I can't really afford before Xmas on top of my moving costs).
Any tried and tested OS methods
I have tried googling, but most suggestions seem to have comments saying "does not really work"!!
Thanks in advance, and again, sorry if this is not in the right place.

Hi stiltoncheese,
This older thread on the In My Home board might help: Blue Tack Marks?
LJM, If you are planning to repaint you'll need to cover any grease marks or they will come through the paint in a matter of months. I think that you can buy a product for this, but I've found a quick brush stroke of gloss paint usually seals in the greasy mark.

We always use sugar soap - gently - often don't need to repaint!I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0

Have you tried toothpaste? Was watching programme last week when bad and they used toothpaste to get rid of marks off a wall seemed to work, use white though and try it on a bit thats not too so obvious.0

I Googled for citrus based stain removers and came across this page:
http://www.cleansmartsupplies.co.uk/acatalog/Spot_and_Stain_Removers.html
they seem to be very expensive for a "might work" - does anyone know of any other, more reasonable brands?0 -

I hear shaving foam is a good cleaner for walls that have been painted in vinyl silk. My daughter swears by it.0

Thanks everyone.
I have tried a couple of things (including some weird smelly wipes from my dad which are supposed to remove engine oil!) and the marks seem to have faded a bit, but are still slightly visible.
Anyway, I will paint over them now and hopefully they won't show through, well at least until my damage deposit has been returned anyway!
Thanks again.Debt free since May 20150
