Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey.

"Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished . . . Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall."

you f1ilthy mare, i saw it here - Matthew 14:13-21
After Jesus heard about John, he crossed Lake Galilee to go to some place where he could be alone. But the crowds found out and followed him on foot from the towns. When Jesus got out of the boat, he saw the large crowd. He felt sorry for them and healed everyone who was sick. That evening the disciples came to Jesus and said, "This place is like a desert, and it is already late. Let the crowds leave, so they can go to the villages and buy some food."

Jesus replied, "They don't have to leave. Why don't you give them something to eat?"

But they said, "We have only five small loaves of bread" and two fish." Jesus asked his disciples to bring the food to him, and he told the crowd to sit down on the grass. Jesus took the five loaves and the two fish. He looked up toward heaven and blessed the food. Then he broke the bread and handed it to his disciples, and they gave it to the people. After everyone had eaten all they wanted, Jesus' disciples picked up twelve large baskets of leftovers.

There were about five thousand men who ate, not counting the women and children.

Not everybody's part of a smug couple.

That is a problem and looking at house prices in that area the man could probably buy a 1 bed flat but the woman wouldn’t be able to buy anything. Mind you I don’t think that there has been many times in the past when the woman would have been able to buy.

And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:

And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, PasturesNew, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

We were 'lucky' enough to get on the property ladder in the early 1970s and just managed, by making loads of sacrifices and living frugally, to keep paying the mortgage when rates were over 15%. Then, in 1995 my husband had a serious road traffic accident and was unable to work. Were we able to claim for our mortgage payments? No! If it hadn't been for my mother paying part of our mortgage we and our children would have been homeless. However had we been in rented accommodation we would have got our rent paid.

Our parents scrimped & saved after WW2 to buy their houses, only to be entitled to little or no help in their old age because the house was considered an asset. Again, had they been in rented accommodation they would have been entitled to all manner of benefits. Then, after their deaths the beneficiaries have to pay inheritance tax!

I've told my adult children not to bother trying to buy a home but rent one. Spend your money on holidays and new cars and treat your children while you are all young enough to enjoy it. Then if you are ill or made redundant or need to go into a care home let the Government pay. After all you've paid enough in taxes all your working life you deserve some of it back!

The government will pay your mortgage now, LV Sue. Your kids must be kicking themselves that they they listened to you.

"It's always been thus" is a terrible argument. We wouldn't have democracy or schools for everyone if we took that path.
