Buying house from parent

My father is planning to sell his house on the market, he has however given me and my gal first option, now its a 3 bedroom house is in excellent knick, i was braught up in it etc etc. He is willing to sell me the house for 42000. If this is the case do i still need to get a survey? How does it effect my application for a mortgage, what can i skip, is this gonna result in massive savings for me? I live in Scotland and he was planning to put it on the market for 50g+

Any help on this would be great!

  • I dont know if the rules are different in Scotland (as is often the case) but here if you want a mortgage then you have to have a basic survey - basically so that the mortgage company can guarentee the property is worth the amount they are lending. If you like the house I would jump at it - though I would probably say the asking price was a little more so that you had some money to spend on furniture etc.
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)
