Handing In My Notice, But Manager Is On Holiday....

Yes I agree. Unopened mail is the employers problem - getting your resignation in is yours. I have already explained that if there is nobody there to receive it, then it isn't recieved. In effect, what you did is no different from putting it on the bottom of the out pile on someone's desk - or putting it under the rug - and saying you put it in their office! Because well, yes, you technically did, but you knew it would not be seen. You knew that the manager was on holiday and if you wanted the resignation actioned, then you needed to make sure that someone opened it. 15th June is not that far away, and this is a case of least said soonest mended. You may be able to take any owed holiday to reduce the notice (but you have to ask the employer - it isn't an automatic right), and maybe if they can replace you quicker they may actually be prepared to let you go a little sooner. But arguing over why your notice wasn't accepted when you wanted it to be is simply going to make them more resistant to any solution that may suit both of you.0

Ok many thanks, you have all been very helpful. I understand all the points.
It's a frustrating situation for me as I work nights, so my shifts are always 7pm-7am, but that is not an excuse. There are also variables to my working conditions which led me to gain a new job i.e personal issues between myself and my manager.
But in the end, i accept the legal side of it. I just hope they will admit that my last working day is 15th June and not the 17th of June....0
