Rent Deposit - Bad News
After 6 years I'm leaving my apartment. The apartment is exactly as when I first got it. No wall pictures no hooks no nothing. There is leak damage from the apartment above me that was haphazardly repaired and water damage to the ceiling that every apartment on the "storm side" received that was never repaired. I spoke to a long time tenant and mentioned my deposit and he said no one ever gets their deposit back.
The person across the hall recently left after only one year. A long term resident was there before him and there seemed to be a lot of work done before he moved in.
I heard someone ask an agent giving her a walk through why she was being shown junk. Now the place is getting new everything.
My apartment has about 15 to 20 year old everything.
I really want to nip this in the bud and get my deposit back.
Help!!!

Have you signed an extension to your contract since April 2007? Your tenancy started before deposit protection was mandatory, but if you signed an extension after that date then your landlord should have protected your deposit.
Was there an inventory done when you first moved in? Is there anything damaged? If the fixtures and fittings are 20 years old the landlord most certainly can't replace them for new ones at your expense.0 -
Sorry to hear your problem but this is the Loans section which doesn't seem relevant.
You may get better responses by posting in the House Buying, Renting & Selling section.0
