Please can anyone help me get the last bit of milk from flasks. I get there eventually but I wondered if anyone had a good method.

Many thanks

Hi, it is good to 'see' you.

Darling father takes a flask of cold milk up every night. This is to have with his teasmade last thing at night and first thing in the morning (sometimes second and third thing in the morning if he wants a bit of piece and quiet from little bear). Darling father now lives with us. If the flasks get left upstairs then the milk gets gunky and I end up with a film of milk over the bottom of the flask, and I am struggling to get that off.

I was just hoping that there would be some ideas. I am also looking for a new bottle brush. Mine just doesn't seem to be getting the last bit of stuff off.

Nice to see you too M'lady!

Stick a couple of grains of rice in (with your soapy water), put the lid on and shake! The rice should dislodge the milk. I'm sure there's a thread but my lunch brain can't think.....

quintwins - I have been steeping them in hot water, shaking frantically after a while, steeping them some more... It is really weird. All it seems to need is around six more hours than normal and I end up really struggling with the last few traces. And of course, if I miss even a tiny bit it will sour any new milk put in.

Zip - I will try that, it has to be worth a go.

In the past I tried using sterilising fluid (when little bear was still on a bottle) on a flask with milk on and it ruined the flask.

    Thank you for your help.

    Steradent tablets would probably work

First DON'T rinse with hot water - sets the milk - use cold water every time

Bicarbonate of soda (bicarb) is excellent to clean and deodorise flasks - if really grubby then bicarb with ordinary vinegar will fizz its way to cleaning the gunk

Simple rinsing the residue away will restore the flask to perfect condition again

Trazy - thank you - I have some steradent tabs for cleaning stained tea mugs.

irenee - that is probably where I have been going wrong, I have been using hot water. I have some bicarb handy so I will try that

Thank you all for your help. I really appreciate it.

Zippy - I shall certainly let you know how it goes.

I really appreciate all the advice on here, I would be lost without being able to go on MSE for help.
