Cheapest Umbrella Co. to use whilst contracting

Hi Could anyone recommend the cheapest and most efficient umbrella co. that I could use? The current company I am using are charging a which can be offset as an expense which means instead of their fee costing you £28 per week, it actually only costs you £15.18 per week?

    Hi there

I work for an umbrella company so I am not impartial but you do tend to get what you pay for in the umbrella market. There are some really bad practices out there and lots of examples of contractors missing out because the umbrella company has gone bust.

Also, the 'cheaper' umbrellas tend to ignore some of the current tax legislation that governs the industry which can also cause you problems.

I've pasted a link below to an independent website which gives you a checklist of what to look for in an umbrella company and some questions you ask before you sign up.

And be very wary of the umbrella company league tables. These are usually owned by a couple of umbrella companies or ask umbrella companies to pay a fee to be included so they aren't very accurate. We are one of the biggest umbrella companies in the UK but we won't pay to go on there so we don't feature on them.

    Here is that link

No. It would cost you £20-ish give or take a few pence. And thats whether you earn £10 in that week or £10,000.

Try Springboard - they are free if you don't want to process expenses, and only £5, I think, if you want mileage and subsistence. £10 a week for anything else, including Capital Allowance expenditure. Obviously read all the T&Cs, but they have no hidden costs or anything that I found, and no termination fee.

This is not advice, merely a recommendation!
