I have been cleaning out my kitchen cupboards this afternoon and have found creepy crawlies:eek: They were mainly in an opened tortilla packet - so I threw out all the opened packets of rice and pasta and washed everything in hot water, removed all labels from the tins (I did mark them all up afterwards!). I cleaned the cupboard and dried it out thoroughly - but now that I have had another look - they are everywhere. Not just in the cupboard but over the walls and the ceiling!
They are not weevils that you would find in flour - that cupboard seems unaffected. I certainly can't see any on the packets and bags in there. But they must be there. They are a golden colour and as tiny as a grain of flour. You only know that they are there because they move. I have seen them before - on my compost bin and my worm bin in the summer. There were millions. They must have got into the house when the worm bin was by the back door. I was never able to get rid of them - I think the cold got rid of the visible ones.
I think that I may need to get an exterminator in. Has anyone else ever seen anything like this? how can this happen two weeks before Christmas? They have probably been there for ages - they just look like dust - so they probably won't do us any harm. But would you like to eat anything out of my kitchen because I certainly don't.
Actually I don't think I need advice - just a very stiff drink!

Enviremental Health office is
closed till Monday.
If you go into B&Q they sell
a creepy crawlie spray not
too dear,£1.99.I think your going to
have to use something like this
to shift them.Me I would chuck everthing
,Spray the walls ,ceiling and
cupboard.
See if you can find the source and eliminate
it,go through everything drawers other
cupboards the lot.If you dont fancy
spraying in your food cupboard,
get Domestos apply neat or put
a very large squeeze of it into a
spray bottle top up with some water
and spray that in instead.
You will have to do every where
because these obviously multiply
easily.
I will ask my DH if he knows more
when he gets in from work,he has
worked in enviremental health
so may have a better idea.0 -

Thanks for that - I am going to go through the whole kitchen. Unfortunately it is a big one with wooden floor boards! This is so depressing - but at least I haven't done much of the Christmas food shopping yet.
I can't do much tonight - the problem isn't going to get any worse if I leave it until daylight. Then I can get the spray and nuke the lot of them.Stash Busting Challenge waiting for inspiration:D :j0 -
Had another thought - didn't Kim and Aggie use tea tree oil to stop spiders by wiping it on walls on one of their programmes. Maybe when I have nuked the bu**ers and everything is dry I should slosh that around too.Stash Busting Challenge waiting for inspiration:D :j0

Thanks everyone - these bugs seem to be most like the flour or furniture mite descriptions. At least from your posts, Stompa and Pink, it looks as though I can stop them though. I'll need to hit Tescos first thing for their cheap tupperware to store everything in the future - as well as keeping the flour in the freezer.
That's what I like about this board - you know that there is always someone to help if you need it.Stash Busting Challenge waiting for inspiration:D :j0
