HSBC Secure Key - Useless

Received a secure key which I wasn't too thrilled about, but there's not much I can do. Placed it into my wallet as advised by HSBC.
Went to use it today and the screen had cracked and filled with black ink.
Do not put these in your wallet. They are very fragile.
After being on the phone for 12 minutes, they are sending me a new one.
Unfortunately I can no longer use internet banking until I set the new secure key up.
Useless!

Just got mine today, what a piece of crap these things are!!!
I normally check my bank a good 5 times a day to make sure everything is in order, well thanks to this I will now be checking once a day (if that)
They are so hard and slow to use, it's really annoying.0 -
Wouldnt say they are hard to use, but definitely slower! It's a right pain as you say at work, (I dont carry my keys about with me, leave them in my desk drawer), and it's noo more secure for me anyway because the pin code is the same as my credit and debit cards :rotfl:0

But you chose that option ...0 -
It might be more secure but it's ridiculous. If the keys get lost or stolen then you cannot manage your account like the original guy said.
Plus, if I'm out and a guy mugs me he's got the key AND my card. The only thing stopping him from logging into my account is the personal information and pin.
Natwest have a similar system but they've implemented it properly. You don't need the key to log in but only need the key to amend payees or transfer money around which is the only way you can lose money.0 -

I find it a pain too - I guess it was easier to implement during the login procedure than at the point of creating payments? The only good thing about the HSBC device is that it is much smaller than the Coop one - I do keep it in my wallet and havent had a problem with it breaking so far...
Checking your account 5 times a day sounds a bit OCDI tend to check mine once a day (which a lot of people probably think is too often also!)

Since receiving mine I now log in to my account less often. There's no way I'm carrying that thing around in my wallet and I just leave it next to the computer at home. This restricts me from checking my account at work if something crops up that requires me to do so.
The keys are quite fiddly to press too, but I suppose if its a safer system, then in the long run its a positive step.0 -
With a struggle i'll use it at home when i can sit with the key flat on the desk in front of me with a bright lamp on it, i can't ever imagine out on the street at some cash point.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

It's a piece of rubbish! I try and keep it in my laptop bag but I always struggle to find it when I'm looking for it. I have a Co-op one that you need for creating payees etc. which I don't mind so much as at least I can log in without it and can phone to make the transaction if I really can't find it. Also the one I got for an old RBS account works as well as the co-op one so there's more chance of me setting my hand to one.Sealed Pot Challenge #239
