Induction Hobs

I saw today that Netto are selling freestanding Induction Hobs and you get change out of £30 as well:j
So I have bought one.....:D
I took it home and did a little exeriment using cold water, two identical Le Creuset pans, 1 litre of water each and a cost plug - Very interesting results
Induction Hob Time to Boil - 5 mins 55 seconds.Cost of electric used 1.14p
Standard "Solid Ring" Hob Time to Boil 8 mins 10 seconds. Cost of electric used 2.01p
Both appliances were rated at 1.5Kw
It will take some time to get used to, as you can turn it up and down almost as fast as gas, the pan doesn't initially get very hot and the "Hotplate doesn't get any hotter than the pan either. You can set it by power output or by the temperature the pan attains and it has a built in timer too. It also "knows" when the pan is removed from the hob and turns the power off. It has a safety feature in which it will not run for more than 2 hours anyway unless you turn it off and on again and even on its highest setting it wouldn't get hot enough to cause an oil fire.
I think it is a good money saving buy and would be a boon for anyone with forgetful relatives. The down side is that it is rather large (about 15" square ) but wil easily take a 12 frying or pasta pan.
I just might get another one

I have one of these. I turned my back to get a wooden spoon from the drawer to stir a sauce and the thing had boiled over!
I've got used to the speed now. Highly recommended. :TTL0 -
I have had a fitted Induction hob for nearly 20 years, we bought one when they first came out and were very expensive. However I have never regretted the purchase. The price comparison is very interesting, thanks.
The only slight drawback is you cannot use every pot on the hob, cast iron works well but is heavy. However pot manufacturers are now producing stainless steel pots with a special bottom allowing use on the hob.
If you are about to buy a new hob then I would seriously recommend you investigate the induction variety.0 -
ive had an induction hob for 5years now would go back to gas anyday but as we are selling up within a year it has to stay,i get so fed up with things boiling over too quickly good in some aspects but not my cup of tea big expense for something i could have spent on something else. Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)0
