Go Outdoors Price Promise - Be Aware!

Don't take NO for an answer if you want an Amazon price match - especially if the item is an Amazon stocked/shipped item.

Just been to local Go Outdoors for some bits and bobs...

Had a price match in mind on one of the items - it was cheaper at Amazon, which I found strange as this item is normally a pretty standardish price everywhere!

Anyhow, get to the till and me laddo on the till says we don't price match Amazon - over toddles manager...

He confirms this - no price match on Amazon - I exclaim that their own policy written on the wall not 4 foot away states 'We will price match any competitor or website in the UK and give you 10% extra' or thereabouts.

He tried the old its not from Amazon but an outfit that uses eBay?!? and fronts to Amazon.

I showed him my printout that stated 'stocked and shipped by Amazon.co.uk' - Then he tries the old we reserve the right nonsense. At which point I would have walked - after all we were only talking about a difference of £2.22 including the 10%!!

He then grudgingly backs down with the old 'we'll do it this time' line! :T

Me laddo then comes the old soldier about delivery - again printout 'Free Delivery using Super saver'.

I then rang their Price promise line when I got home - don't use the CS number of 0845 002 0888 - USE 0114 292 3183 instead if you have a 'free'/included daytime calls package!

The chap on the other end was backing the stores up about this eBay nonsense and quickly backtracked when I explained the stock holding thing. He did however try it on about Amazon just being a massive stockist of anything and everything without having a set stock holding so not being a direct competitor. I mentioned the big T and US owned A - he then accepted I had a point.

So, if the item you want price matched with Amazon in Go Outdoors is an Amazon 'stocked and shipped' item - argue the toss they will back down!

If they don't I'm sure trading standards will be happy to have a word as their policy doesn't out and out exclude Amazon, just auction sites among a few others.

Personally I wouldnt shop at go outdoors. I am an avid camper, got plenty of gear etc, but they are not that competitive and I dislike their pricing structure. They are a bit amateur.
