tax 747L ALLOWANCE ?

Hi just a quick question please if the tax code 747L Even though its the beginning of the tax year and i have nowere near earned the allowance do i still get tax deducted from my wages as i have had tax deducted this month ? i thought i had to earn over my allowance before i was taxed anything ? (sorry i dont really understand how this tax stuff works can anyone tell me in simple terms ??

You can earn £7475 per year before paying tax on that code. That figure is divided by 12 to give you your monthly allowance. So if you earned more than £623 this month you will have paid tax.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
