Student Acc/ OverDraught & CCs

I jst read something in another post there thats made me think..

I am about to start Uni in Feb to get my Nursing Degree..

Could I open Student Acc solely to get a decent overdraught at 0% and transfer my CC balances into it?.. See my SOA for details..?

if so whats best bank/type of acc to get?

Comments

  • Possibly but when you graduate they may ask for it all back eg get another loan to pay it off (happened to me )

    Best of luck @ uni
Isn't the knowledge that comes from experience more valuable than the knowledge that doesn't?

Ill have it paid off by nxt yr.. I will only use this account to transfer my CC balances into.. then set up a standing order from my joint account to clear it.. id be paying them off anyways however if this is poss.. would mean id be clearing balance only.. minus interest that is killing me!..x

Cheers for the luck.. I cant wait to go :D
  • I had a lloyds one, I think they might want some payment into there (like a student loan), and I think you can get about £1000 interest free. They should change it to a graduate account at the end as well, which still has a 0% o/d. NOTE: They won't do this automatically for you, they'll try to change it to a classic - you have to see them about it.

Although that was for a three year degree and it was a while ago now, so it could;ve changed.

EDIT: this from the lloyds website
yopu have to have applied for, or be studying on, a full-time course of at least two years duration which is one of the following:
Undergraduate degree such as a BA, BSc, LLB or BEd,
BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND – level 3 or 4),
    Diploma in Nursing Studies,
    Diploma of Higher Education,

I had my student account with Barclays ( for 4 years - long story) and then graduate account for 2 more years - this was done automatically, all at 0%. Had another with Natwest (which i later found out is illegal??!) they had little payment in and got quite nasty about it.
No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.
