The Tesco Local near me has never done cashback. The Alliance and leicester m/c outside used to charge when it was a Onestop but has been free since Tesco took over. Are the Locals a franchise or similar?

(I've always fancied getting one of those shirts that say "no, I do not have a f******g loyalty card")
Every few months I get a pile of vouchers for £4 off a £40 spend plus a load of “reward” vouchers that are effectively cash though I usually exchange them for air miles. I also get the 5p off a litre of petrol voucher if you spend £50 when this is on offer though I think this is for any customers regardless of whether they have a loyalty card or not
I don’t buy anything I would not buy anyway. I have no loyalty as such to Tesco and, if I can get it cheaper elsewhere I will, but I don’t live near a Lidl or similar cheaper store. I also shop in Waitrose or Sainsbury as well.0 -
they don't ask you if you want cashback now because they had lots of problems of cashiers forgetting to hand over cash and having to sort out the tills, which have to be done at the end of the day and also it can hold up the tills and they want to get you through the tills as quick as poss so their 'one in front' figures are better
locals and express tescos don't do cash back, neither do petrol stations as they generally don't have much security, or proper cash offices like stores do and so don't carry as much cash. also re the cash machines they generally are nothing to with tesco they are run by RBS and filled by them0 -

Tesco Personal Finance is a joint venture between RBS and Tesco on a profit sharing basis. As cash machines are profitable it would be reasonable to assume that Tesco do receive a share of that profit too.All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

what i meant was if you had a problem such as your card being swallowed etc the store will refer you to RBS and will not deal with it themselves. didn't mean HO i meant the store itself0

Don't quite get that - the business is charged a flat fee for the transaction, if you add £30 cash-back onto your shopping bill the fee is the same. Also the Supermarkets want to get rid of cash, it costs them to count it and get it taken away - Mr Tesco and Mr Co-op would be delighted if every transaction was on plastic. No Cash Office, no armoured van to collect it - more profit !
One cynical reason for not giving cash back is where you have a "captive audience" such as motorway service areas, where most of the free cash machines have been replaced with fee charging ones.0
