Bankruptcy from Abroad, questions

Hi,
I have read a so much information here and have a few questions.
After leaving the Uk with a ton of debt, in Nov 2008 my wife to be has convinced me to sort it out before we get married.
If it helps i will be going back the UK in another 2.5 years, I am getting married next year, I do not have a regular income, I am 31
I left the Uk with negatove equity on 2 properties, and today have established that after they had been reposessed and sold I owe the following
Northern rock, £47k was secured against property A, £35k unsecured
Standard Life, £24k secured against property B
Paragon personal finance, £23k secured against property A
In adittion I owe
Alliance and leicester, £2k approx
Lloyds tsb - £3k approx
My questions are, how can I find out if i owe anyone else money (without paying £50)?
How easy is it do declare bankruptcy from abroad?
Will payplan/cccs be able to help, with me not being resident?
is it worth paying an agent to do this?
Thanks
Kev

Hi, I have a few things that might help. Bankruptcy is definately the route to go with that amount of debt because when i seeked advise they said the same to me and i had a regular income and less debt and good on your future wife for pushing you in the right direction!
There are certain ways to obtain your credit report for free, its usually a free 30day trial and then you get charged, i recommend signing up getting your report and cancelling pretty much in the same day. This will allow you to see exactly what balances you have outstanding and where amongst other things.
As for how easy it i to declare bankruptcy from abroad, well that depends on where you reside, if it is in the EU then not so easy. If you are not in the EU then you can go bankrupt with the help of many companies in the UK and I had great advise from "bankruptcyfromabroad" (google them).
There is alway a fee to go bankrupt and this can be a lot more expensive if done from abroad. However in some circumstances ( ithink if you have lived away for less than3 years) you do not have to attend court yourself but clarify this with the above people.
I hope this was not too brief to help you! Good luck with it all!0 -

The key question here is what country you are now inHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.
Please note that any views i put forth are not those of my former employer The Insolvency Service and do not constitute professional advice, you should always seek professional advice before entering insolvency proceedings.0 -
Leveller, Payplan have permission to post on the boards and the OP had already said that he had spoken to them so the Payplan person was just answering his question.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

Hi thanks for the replies
i am in India, very outside of the EU; does the specific country make a huge difference?
I had emailed bankruptcyfromabroad and am awaiting a call from them monday. Do you have an idea of their charge?
Lizzy I will also be calling payplan Monday.
i have tried the free 30 day trial credit report, but as i have used them before they are not letting me view for free. is there a way around this?
Thanks again

Hi
as leveller has mentioned we do have permission to post of the forum and as keatster had a specific question with regard to how we can help him I felt that it only right that I do so.“Official Company Representative
I am the official company representative of Payplan. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"0 -
I just wanted to take a moment to give an update on my situation:
I took up the services of bankruptcy from abroad. To begin they were very consultative, empathetic and informative.
At no time did they put any pressure on me, and allowed me to make my payment in 2 instalments.
I had their advice when filling in the forms (which was great). They were not cheap, their fee being a little more than a return flight to the UK would have cost, but then I didn't have to go to court, and I guess they were able to give me good advice in how to word my answers to questions as so far I have not had any contact from the OR, and we are 5 months past the court date now.
Overall I was very pleased with the service and am awaiting the day I am discharged!
Highly reccommended
