I received a phone call this morning, about 7.45am. Then man stated he was from a debt collection agency and could I tell him if Mrs XXXXX was still my neighbour! I told him that Mrs XXXXX passed away about 12 months ago.
He then asked me if any of her close relatvies still live in the house, or if not did I know the address or phone numbers of any of them! I said sorry but I feel uncomfortable answering those questions and put the phone down.
Are they allowed to do that, phone neighbours up to snoop on them! Just doesn't seem right to me.

Well done on putting the phone down...let the scum do their own legwork...and yes they can ask the question but you do not have to answer them.It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
It would probably be against OFT debt collection guidance - in that it could be argued they are delibrately trying to embarrass Mrs X.
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2992820 clause 2.2j probably. But in reality there is probably little you can do about it. Mrs X could have a filed a complaint in normal circumstances but thats obviously not going to happen in this case.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I meant to say I felt uncomfortable answering his questions because Mrs XXXXX daughter lives just down the road from me, I know her well. There was no way I was giving any info out over the phone to a stranger about her.
Glad I didn't!0
