Making Money From Tomato`s

Hi MSE Peeps

I have just come with an idea and I didnt know whether this was covered elsewhere on the forum.

I have recently learnt how to grow and harvest tomatoes. My idea was that after harvesting my first set of tomatoes, was to grow them and take the seeds out, eat the rest of the tomato and sell the seeds.
I noticed that I got around 40 to 50 seeds in each of my tomatoes.

Looking on Ebay they are 99p for 120 so lets say 50p for 50 seeds. Now thats 50p back on each tomato grown (Free Money) or even bought (Money back on your Tomatoes).

Let me know what you think MSE peeps. Its time consuming but takes about a week to harvest and dry the seeds out.

Message me if you want to know how to harvest the seeds or just go on Youtube and watch a video.

If it's so easy to harvest the seeds from bought tomatoes, then why would we need to buy the seeds from you. So if everyone who can, starts harvesting their own seeds, then you have no market. Also you would pay tax on your profits so the 50p per tomato diminishes.

I found it took a bit longer than that to try seeds out but I did last year and they have germinated ok this year, remember if you grow hybrids you will not get the exact same tomato next year, if you are thinking of selling for profit remember to consider p&p costs and any commision charged by ebay etc also you will have a very limited market and sale time don't let me dishearten you its a great way to save money on your own seeds but don't think it will be a great earner for you

Yes, but if everybody puts them on eBay the market would be saturated.

The idea is good in theory, and as anyone can do it "for free", excellent for those who are able to grow tomatoes. But I can't see much if any money being made by selling the seeds.

Most people I know don't bother with tomato seeds when you can buy young tomato plants between 10 to 50p at local village hall/church porch sales. On one occasion there were so many plants for sale that I could pick up trays of plants for 10p at the end of the sale
