EON's Bully department

Just had a call from EON as we are in arrears by 1 quarterly bill. They have said they wont even think about a payment plan unless I pay at least 25% of the bill immediately which I cant do until next month. This they said was unacceptable and told me my account was at pre disconnection stage and they would be applying to have me disconnected whereby they could break into the property if needed and fit a prepayment meter charging me £250 odd for the privilege. The wife is now in tears petrified - is this right?

They have to get a court order to enter to change the meter. You would receive notification of the court date before anything else happens. If it does get to court, they will add the court fees to the debt. If you agree to have the prepayment meter installed it will avoid the court charges.

    Hi starsky365,

I am sorry about the difficult position that you are in at the moment.

To be honest, being at the pre disconnection stage is quite far along the debt follow up procedure.

Has the account been debt for some time?

Has there been failed arrangements in the past?

You would have received a number of letters about clearing the balance before getting to the warrant stage. (it sounds like this is also why you have received the phone call).

If you are happy to have the pre-payment meter, then you would be best to agree to have this fitted now before the warrant, this will avoid the extra charges. We will then set the debt on the meter and you will pay this back weekly.

If you really don't want the pre-payment meter, then you will need to agree to pay off some of the balance and set up an arrangement to cover future usage and pay off any of the outstanding debt.

I have been trying to get Eon to fit a pre payment meter for 2 months now and all I get are loads of emails asking me to call this number or that number when I have made it clear I only have a mobile and will not call them (just can't afford it)
I would "try" and get a pre payment meter fitted yourself as that way it will not cost you the £250 and will avoid a lot of hassle and stress, I hope you have more luck then me with it but it has to be worth trying.

    Hi Gothicfairy,

I'm sorry that you have had these problems, If you send me your details to the email address in my profile page, I can ask the correct department to give you a call on your mobile.

They can arrange the appointment for you.
