My first post on this board...I'm getting grown up. Looking for a venue in Leeds area

Hi,

We got engaged mid-August and despite neither of us wanting a long engagement we have made no plans yet at all as my fiance(!) is really busy with work and I'm...lazy, a man, very busy too (take your pick, one might not be true though).

We want, ideally, one venue for everything, cheap (ish), able to bring own booze with no or reasonable corkage, able to hold about 200 and 140 for the meal, nice scenery. It's probably too much to ask but we're both pretty easy and prepared to compromise. The meal can be sit down or buffet, and actually, another tjhing to the list, ideally we'd do that ourselves too to keep costs down.

Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated. A bit like Crimewatch, maybe any tips leading to a booking can be invited to the big day!
And if, you know, your history...

The Olive Tree Greek Restaurant, Rodley Lane, gets my vote. We had a fantastic family dinner-party there in June. Live Greek singing and bouzouki-playing, great food, wonderful atmosphere.

Thats very local but they dont do weddings do they? We want the ceremony, meal and evening do all in one place if possible - sorry if that wasnt clear. Not sure the Olive Tree would be big enough either.

    Congrats on your engagement

You'll have to get cracking if you want to get married soon as my younger daughter is getting married next September and we're finding a lot of places are already booked up!

One place we may look at is Chevin Lodge (might be a bit far out though) as my Mum and Dad had their 50th wedding anninversary there and it was very nice. Might not be big enough for you though , but it's definitely got the nice scenery

Shall post if I think of anywhere else and also look out for any suggestions we can use :D

not sure about corkage though. when we were looking at venues to get married in the corkage was so ridiculous we were cheaper to have their wine

Cheers all. I'll check those out. To Sheel, the lakeside cafe at Roundhay is nice. It would be really beautiful for an eveing do on a sunny spetember evening, overlooking the lake. Alas, was a bit small for us (they can have 90 dining) and no good for our 1 venue idea (which i think we're gonna have to drop at this rate).

I can second East Riddlesden Hall in Keighley, my mum works there and I used to work there too and it's absolutely gorgeous! But hurry, as Sheel said, it gets booked up very fast! I really recommend it if you want one venue (I'm 99% sure they do weddings there), there's places for beautiful photos and although it's a bit of a faff to drive from Leeds they do have good parking and it's on a main road! The train from Leeds to Keighley is very regular but you would need a taxi (or some other mode of transport) from the train station :-)

I'm coming back to Leeds to get married next year, it's not one venue, but we're going to the Town Hall to get married which is beautiful and they're really helpful, and then The Lounge near The Grand Theatre. I have no clue how good the Lounge will be but I have it on good authority that they're nice! They're only a stone's throw from The Town Hall (if you see a rehead pottering through Leeds in a wedding dress next year that's me!) :-)
Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!
