New beginnings

Hey all, as your probably well aware ive spent the last year and a bit, getting my debt down as quick as possible, and although I fell short of paying off my debt in the target of November, i feel in the long term the investment ive made instead will prove to be worth it.

Anyways I have recently accepted a IT sales role, which will be based purely on commission, having no practical sales experience this would be classed as risky for most people.

Luckily I have the support of a great team at work, I have spent hours listening to tapes, and putting them into practice, my outgoings now will be classed as miniscule and Ii have some savings left to get me through the next couple of months.

I think this is a bit of a gamble, it could be a huge success, or a big failiure, im concentrating on the former, and im confident I can make this work :)

So this really is the first big step in my dream to 10 year "retirement", im so looking forward to next year now its unreal :)

I hope everyone gets to the stage where the debt is an issue still, but i see the whole big picture, and i feel great :D

BB

  • Good luck Kev! Will you keep us posted on how it goes?

You'll always have IT skills to fall back on should you need them - but with your positive attitude I am sure you will be just fine.

I start tuesday properly, and its going to be a huge learning curve, but in the chat we had they said i had great telephone skills & good IT background, so hopefully when the sales bit falls into place then ill already be doing well.

And yep, ive been told that if any contracts come up to help me fund myself while business builds, I can go work without issue, must start marketing my skills a bit in my area :) get some freelance work again

    Just a quick update

First week went well, didnt make any sales (so thats not good) but lots of people interested in emailing info (which is prob them fobbing me off, but ill remain optimistic) so its a start, towards the end of the week i felt myself gaining in confidence, which is a start.

Things have taken a turn for the worse at home as my nan is refusing to let me work there, in a situation which is rediculous and petty, which i dont really want to get into, so have contacted a friend about an office (the business im working for doesnt have space, and its a work from home arrangement)

So ill prob be looking to move early in the year, will see how that goes.

The other schemes ive got going are not going well, the 1st one ive been waiting and waiting for the other people to do there bit, hopefully soon they will get there asses in gear lol.

The next one is dying a death due to me not wanting to invest too much money into it, and the fact unfortunately it has slipped down my list of priorities.

My 3rd idea, had a meeting about it saturday, looks promising, hopefully in a year or two's time, me and my partner will be on the news with it, :) not saying any more lol

So becoming debt free at the moment looks a long way off, ill have to fund myself while I build up these things, so im glad im down to one loan with 270 a month payment, but its annoying ive come so close to paying it all off, and to fall short is frustrating, but i have to beleive that my investing will be a lot more beneficial in the long run.

Hi Kev - Commission only jobs are very difficult - especially in a sector which is already saturated. I wish you every success, but don't spend too much of your own money until you start getting some results.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

  • Hi Kev.

Good luck for the New Year. I don't know a lot about Sales jobs but I tend to agree with rog2.

BUT saying that, it is a funny time of year where people are winding down and don't really want to do anything at work...things may well pick up in the New Year and also towards April when new budgets are out?

But good luck - and I hope you get the office space sorted soon too. (Sorry to hear things aren't going so great with your Nan.)

Best of luck in self employed sales. It`s what I do.I was doing very well earning on average about £4k a month but the firm I am with have changed the goal posts by taking my largest customers ``in house`` meaning they won`t pay out on them. They have broken the contract but it is hard to know what to do.

So I have reduced the time I spend working for them and I am looking for a different enterprise to run along side it next year.
