Using Slow Cooker for small amount

I've been reading through and picked up some good tips from you all, so hope you can help me with a question.
I want to cook chicken in a sauce for 2 people in my slow cooker - but the slow cooker is very big, so the food would just be spread over the bottom too thinly so dry up - has anyone ever tried putting a smaller dish inside the slow cooker to hold the food in?
I would normally cook extra and freeze it, but my freezer is not working!

I actually have two slow cookers ,one my DD gave me when her family grew to & and she needed a larger one and one I bought from Argos a few years ago which I think is around 3 ltres.I rarely use the smaller one as I would rather cook a bit extra and with the lid on even though I am cooking for myself only I have never found it to dry out at all.A bit more liquid won't make the sauce much thinner and you can always leave the lid off to render it down a bit.,or freeze the surplus sauce for another day in a dish lined with tinfoil until frozen then take out the foil and wrap up to make more room in the freezer0

Thank you both - I will try it with the smaller dish - and try with lid off another day when I will be home to keep an eye on it.£2 savers club 2012 No 1470

As jenster said, I've made a steamed steak and kidney pudding in the slow cooker by putting the basin directly into the slow cooker, but filling the cooker half way up the pudding basin with boiling water from a kettle. Perhaps that would work?
Good luck!Mortgage Free as of 03/07/2017 :beer:0
