Self Employment

Hi :T

I am self employed, and am looking to expand the business via other self employed "cold callers."

I have found several people, who can confirm that they are registered self employed, but I need to know what I need to do legally in terms on contracts etc.

Can anyone offer any advice or point me in the right direction?

Many thanks.

Write up a contract between you and them or get a contract from them where it states what you get for your money, the price/commission and payment terms plus penalties for not completing.

Thank you, they will be working commission only which I hope makes things more straightforward, just checking that it is ok to have a contract between 2 self employed parties, and that it does not infer an "employed" status?

You need to be very specific in your employment terms and conditions. These are a legal requirement. They also provide protection if there should be a falling out in the future. The Department of Learning and Skills should be able to offer some advice.

This is what is confusing me, as I wouldn't actually be employing them! Will head there to see if they can help. :)

Ah but you are employing them by acting as an agent for them. You are then in effect an employment agent or employment business - the legal requirements are the same for both. You MUST have terms and conditions of business and terms of employment. That's why I say if you have no knowledge of it, contact the department.

Am I not freelancing or contracting or something!? :D
