What to do with bouquet?

Hi everyone, just after a bit of advice. My nephew got married on Saturday and jetted off on honey moon the day after. I have been drafted in to feed their pets. They left me a message saying there was a bunch of flowers for me at their place and that I should have them to get enjoyment out of them as they are away. As I thought they were just a normal bunch of flowers I only picked them up today only to find that they are not just flowers but actually the brides bouquet!! Now this is very lovely of them, an probably a huge hit as I am unmarried!! The thing is I am wondering if there is anyway that I could preserve them so that I could give them back to the bride? I was thinking that maybe she just didn't think about what she would do with them after the wedding and then of course they went away. Any ideas? They have been left in water and are in good health still, they are roses by the way.

You can have them freeze dried now I don't know anyone who does it or how much it costs.

Rather than preserving the whole bouquet...how about taking just a couple of the flowers and pressing them in a flower press or between some heavy books for a few months....and then using them to make an anniversay card for their first anniversary....

I kept my bouquet and put it in a box with tissue paper and stored it in the loft....it kind of dried out on its own over the years although it has lost a lot of the colour it is still recognisable....

That sounds a lovely thing to do, not sure how to preserve it, have you looked online for ideas?

  • Wow, thats very nice of them. Unfortunately putting flowers in the freezer will only be a temporary fix and they almost certainly will die and wither eventually. The truth is the only way to fully preserve the flowers is for them to be freeze-dried, however expect this to be very pricey - around £250-£350 minimum. The process literally involves disassembling the bouquet, free drying each flower individually and re-assembling the thing. Not easy!

Sadly for most of us this isn't a viable financial option, however you can do best to keep it in water (changing every few days) and enjoy its beauty. Remember the flowers will always be preserved in your photos and your own memories.

My mum saved her rose bouquet and it did wilt but she then placed this where my aunts ashes were scattered which was a lovely thought.

Hope the couple have a lovely honeymoon :)

My MIL rooted some of the foliage from my bouquet, which was then planted out in our garden.

I put my bouquet, 2 of my bridesmaids bouquets, my top table arrangement, my dads button hole and my guestbook table flowers on my nanna & grandads grave, my uncles grave and my hubbys great grandmas/grandads grave the day after our wedding

I think what someone said about preserving just a few flowers and presenting them on their aniversary is a lovely idea. I think she probably just decided she didn't want to preserve the whole thing - most brides consider this before they get married I would think. I'm sure they have enough keepsakes from their big day as it is :)

I like the idea of the preserving of a few flowers and make into an anniversary card. I be very touched if anyone did that for me.

I laid mine on my granparents grave after using it for top table decoration x
