Help i've been ripped off

Can Anyone help please? Got drunk whilst in portugal last weekend and used my debit card in a bar. When i've checked my account there is a €1100 transaction from my account. As I was present, although not coherent lloyds are saying there is nothing they can do to help. Anybody got recommendations on how I can recover the money?

  • does it say the name of the bar? are you able to contact them to advise them of their error?

I wouldn't be suprised if they were not well aware of the 'error'.

Don't think there is anything you can do to recover the money as you authorised the transaction:(

theres no harm in trying. it could be an error, and a 1100 transaction in their favour im sure wont have gone unnoticed. if theyve done it on purpose, the police are your only route.

    Contact the bar.

A very similar thing once happened to me. Instead of punching in 130 the restaurant punched in 1130 (or something along those lines). We didn't notice at the time but after returning to our timeshare, the restaurant owner and his waiter turned up to tell me that there had been an error (apologising profusely). They'd closed the restaurant as soon as possible to come and tell me.

Most people are honest so have some faith. If they refuse, seek legal advice. I think credit cards are much safer than debit cards.

Was it a chip & pin transaction or a signature? If a signature ask for copy of voucher and see if the signature resembles yours. Could be grounds to dispute transaction if considerably different.
  • Thanks For the above, trying to contact the bar to see if they are honest.
