Bank statements...

Options
After some info. I am trying to buy a house, been accepted for mortgage, offer accepted, mortgage lender is after some statements. I don't receive statements as i am paper free. Does any one know if i can use printed statements from online. they are headed with the banks logo and name and have all my details, address, account and sort code number. What are the chances they will accept this.
Thanks Craig

Ask the lender. Most have a "common sense" approach to these type of things. If they say no, you'll have to order reprints from the bank and most charge for this although some let you have a limited number each year for free.
  • When we were applying for our mortgage the other week they let us pull up our online statements on the mortgage manager's pc and print them on her printer!

Probably depends who your lender is. I've just got approval from Woolwich - I bank with Natwest and went in to a branch and had them printed off on Natwest headed paper. That wasn't good enough for Woolwich who made me go back to Natwest and have every page stamped with an official Natwest stamp.

You should be able to order hard copy statements for the last three months. Natwest let you do this twice a year without charge if you usually just get online statements.

yes, I had to have mine printed in branch and signed as true copies etc .... in fact it was a saga and a half as the bank had the wrong address for years ... but that is another story. It's easy enough to do though - normally!
  • Same scenario I had. Bank with HSBC under their "go green" initative. Needed statements so sent in online which got refused. I went to the in-bank statement printer which printed them on shiny paper with a coloured logo, again refused. The mortgage company wanted them stamped by the branch. This time the branch refused stating its against their policy to stamp anything!! So I drove 10 miles to the next branch, explained situation and they printed onto letter headed paper and stamped as well.

Motto of the story - never give up!! :D

I had to phone Nat West and ask for copy statements - they charged me about a tenner I think.

If you use Natwest online banking, then you are entitled to get historic hard copy statements for no charge (only twice a year though). I did this last year and specifically mentioned this and was told I wouldn't be charged but then they charged me anyway! Complained and got my money back the next day so it might be worth a phone call for you.

This just goes to show how much is at the discretion of the mortgage advisor.

When we applied to Woolwich for our mortgage 12 months ago I just provided a printed online statement of our Halifax account which was accepted without question as was a similar printout of a Halifax savings account for our proof of deposit.

Neither my wife or I had any Woolwich / Barclays accounts at the time. :undecided

    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

For our application with First Direct they told us statements printed out from the web would have to be stamped/certified in branch. We did this, which was a bit of a pain. Later in the process they phoned to say they wanted statements for our joint account, as well as the two individual ones. We said fine, but it would take a while as we'd have to go to a branch on Saturday morning to get the printouts certified. The person on the phone then said there was no need for that, just print them and put them in the post.

So, even within a single bank it depends who you speak to!

First Direct told us we had to get originals. Halifax don't do this in branch so we had to wait (ages) for them.
