Homemade gift help!

Its my boyfriends birthday in a couple of a weeks and I really can't afford to spend as much on him as he deserves so need some ideas of some gifts to make him.

He really isnt into soppy stuff all that much so the 100 reasons why I love you probably isnt for him.

He is a massive utd fan and I can bake so I am planning on making him a utd shirt cake.

Any other ideas? I am fairly creative but can't sew to save my life!

Try writing to the football club for a birthday grettings letter. Bet you would be in his good books for years for that x

you will be surprised, most football clubs are pleased to help, including the big clubs like Man U. I hope you hear back from them.

This was the template I used. I posted this, I was told you get a better response by post x

    To whom it may concern

Its my partners birthday [insert date] and it has been mentioned to me that some football clubs send a message of well wishes for their fan's birthday.

I am not sure this is something (insert football club) do, or whether your office is the right one to contact. However my partner [insert name] is a huge fan of (insert name) football club and has been since he was very young. It would be great if he could receive a message of good luck on his birthday.
If this is possible, perhaps you could send the message to me at the address below,
    His details are
Add name birthday date and address

Many thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Love your signature Chris n tj - that's EXACTLY how I feel about my dog Jasper.

Your advice is also excellent. My brother is a long-time Southampton FC fan (ok, ok... no need to take the p*ss...! ;)) but, back when they were in the Premiership (as they will be again) they were more than happy to donate two tickets to a top-flight match as a prize for a charity fundraising raffle, which I organised - and were even accommodating and helpful when the winner got ars*y about changing the date of the tickets for a match he preferred to go to.

One other idea is to send in a match programme with an explanatory note and a stamped addressed envelope (with sufficient postage for the return - otherwise the club will get charged for posting to you, and even Wayne Rooney isn't THAT daft, hehe) and ask for it to be signed and sent back to you. A lot of clubs do this with shirts at the end of a season. Southampton certainly used to - whoever was in at the next training session would sign the item quite willingly.

This definitely works with theatre-shows. A number of times I've sent my theatre programme to the cast with a suitable SAE and it's always come back signed.

Just another idea. But I think, whatever you get for your man, he will appreciate it because you have taken the time and trouble to choose something that you know he'd like and the fact that it is given with your love. That's the best bit, in my view. As far as my boyfriend is concerned, I don't care what he gets for me - even if it's the worst piece of sh*te out there (although I would keep that opinion to myself!) - it's the fact that he chose it with ME in mind, thinking that it might make me smile. That's what I'd like, anyway.

Having said that, if he presents me with another Allen-key in a jewellery box, I may have to instruct my dog Jasper to have a discreet "word" with him... :D

Good luck sweetie. Hope all goes well for a long and happy future with your boyfriend. xxx
