Violin

I have a violin which is at least 150 years old. I really don't think it is worth anything in monetary terms but it is in sentimental.
A family member has suggested to get it valued due to it being so old.
So, does anyone know how to value a violin or have a violin valued, please?

Where in the UK are you from?
If you are anywhere near Birmingham or Nottingham could take into this place:
http://www.turnerviolins.co.uk/contact.php
Possibly even speak to them over the phone about it. I went in there once while my brother was looking for a new violin, I know absolutely nothing about violins but they had some really old ones there with a lot of 0s on the price tag :rotfl:0 -
Thanks bob I'm actually further north, Lancs area.Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

There's the Hexham violin shop, maybe that's closer?
The vast majority of these instruments will be what's known as trade instruments. It's probably going to be German or possibly French, or Czech, and factory produced. If there's a label inside it might give an indication of country of origin, but not much more. Don't get excited if it's got a stradivarius label inside, though as this will mean that it's modelled on a Strad.0 -

I have no idea what make it is although there is a label inside but I can't make out what it is.
For me the sentimental value of being given it by a great uncle who was at that time an elderly gentleman who was so gifted and couldn't play the piano anymore due to losing half the length of his fingers during the war will always be worth far more to me than any price put on it.Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
