AOL / Debt Collector / Not account holder

I've recently been receiving letters through the post about money that I supposedly owe to a debt collector (forgotten the name as i write this) who are chasing money from me from a debt bought from AOL.

My only involvement with AOL was in my final year of UNI where my card was used to pay the monthly broadband. I was never the account holder on the account, nor did I sign up, I just provided my card details midway through the contract for the direct debits to come out as the person who signed up was short on money at times.

As far as I can tell, this person, who I no longer have contact with, did not cancel the AOL subscription and its racked upto £150 now (as I had obviously cancelled the direct debits when I left the house).

As I only providing billing details and wasnt the account holder, I dont believe im responsible? Despite explaining this upteen times to the staff at these debt collector, I still receive these letters and its starting to annoy me and my family. So, my questions are:

1) Am I liable for this debt?
2) Is there a letter I can send to this debt collector to get them off my back?
3) Should I also complain to AOL for incorrectly chasing me for the debt instead of the account holder?

Many thanks for any assistance.
