6 years + debt

Hi, I have been paying a debt for about 8 years now. The original debt was with First Direct Bank when it appeared on my credit history as a default. It was then passed to a collection agency who I have been paying ever since. The debt is no longer on my credit history as 6 years has lapsed. 1. Do I still need to keep paying the debt or 2. If i try to reduce the payment to make it easier on myself can this debt reappear on my history as a default. or 3. If i just stop paying what action can they now take that may damage my credit history? Can any of you kind people give me some advice or examples of your own experiences.

If there was a default that has now gone, then they can't put another on and harm your credit record that way.

However, they can still go to court for a CCJ if you stop paying or reduce payments below what they think is acceptable.

A CCJ would be recorded on your credit reference files and trash your credit worthiness for another 6 years.
